Sean M. Kelly is a barrister in the litigation group at Caron & Partners LLP. He maintains a general litigation practice with a focus on complex commercial disputes and construction-related litigation.

Sean has appeared before the Alberta Provincial Court, Court of Queen's Bench, and the Court of Appeal, and has served as counsel in private domestic and international commercial arbitrations. Prior to joining the firm, Sean practised in the areas of commercial and construction litigation at another national law firm, served as bilingual legal counsel to the Alberta Court of Appeal, and clerked for the Hon. Louis LeBel, Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada.

Sean has advised and acted for clients in disputes relating to joint ventures, product liability, public infrastructure projects, industrial infrastructure, public transportation, delay and scheduling claims, and the enforcement of foreign judgments and foreign arbitral awards. He has acted for petrochemical companies, owners and general contractors, EPCs, mining companies, and a utilities company. Sean has also consulted in the drafting of contractual provisions related to liquidated, excluded, consequential and/or indirect damages.

As an advisor and counsel, Sean enjoys helping his clients develop and grow their businesses not only through effective advocacy at every stage of the litigation process, but also by providing guidance in the drafting of contracts and in the resolution and settlement of disputes short of litigation.

Sean obtained his Honours BA in Histoire, with a concentration in Spanish, from the University of Ottawa; his MA from the Centre for Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto; and his LLB/BCL from McGill Law. Sean is a member of the Law Society of Alberta.
