Jennifer Sykes practices in the areas of municipal, administrative, employment and immigration law.

She provides general legal advice to municipalities on a wide range of topics, including governance; land development; expropriation; bylaw and policy drafting; annexations; intermunicipal disputes; procurement; land acquisition, leasing and disposal; utility servicing; taxation; enforcement; contracts; risk management; and litigation.

Jennifer also represents landowners who are subdividing and developing their properties to help them achieve and give effect to subdivision and development approvals, and landowners whose properties are subject to expropriation and other proceedings.

Jennifer has appeared before various administrative tribunals, as well as representing parties challenging those tribunals’ decisions. She also regularly advises administrative tribunals themselves, helping them ensure that their processes are fair and efficient, and represents those tribunals when their decisions are appealed.

Jennifer chairs the Caron & Partners Labour and Employment practice group. She acts for both employers and employees in all facets of the employment relationship. This involves helping them effectively manage changes to employment, termination of the employment relationship, entering into employment contracts and agreements, resolving disputes, and navigating human rights issues. Her clients include employees from a range of industries and a variety of employers such as private and public entities and large and small businesses.

Jennifer has successfully represented clients in various matters before all levels of Court in Alberta.
