Associate Lawyer - Immigration

Caron & Partners LLP is a leading Calgary law firm with a strong reputation in immigration law. We are seeking a Junior Lawyer to join our Immigration Law Department. This position is ideal for a lawyer with at least 2 years of immigration law experience, who is passionate about litigation and advocacy before the Immigration and Refugee Board and the Federal Court.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct legal research and stay current with case law and immigration policy developments.

  • Draft well-reasoned and persuasive written submissions for a range of complex immigration matters, including humanitarian and compassionate (H&C) applications, Pre-Removal Risk Assessments (PRRAs), admissibility hearings, responses to procedural fairness letters, and Judicial Reviews.

  • Work closely with clients to elicit relevant details about their cases, ensure accuracy of facts, and assist in drafting supporting narratives and affidavits.

  • Prepare clients to testify at hearings, including explaining procedures, addressing credibility concerns, and conducting practice sessions.

  • Represent clients in immigration hearings before the IRB, including refugee claims, admissibility and detention matters, and appeals.

  • Prepare and argue applications for judicial review and Stay motions before the Federal Court.

  • Collaborate with senior lawyers and the immigration team on strategy and client management.

Qualifications:

  • LL.B. or J.D. and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Canadian immigration law.

  • Demonstrated interest in litigation, advocacy, and written/oral submissions.

  • Exceptional English language ability, with strong communication skills both orally and in writing.

  • Strong research, drafting, and analytical skills.

  • Diligent and detail-oriented, with the ability to prepare thoroughly for hearings and manage complex files.

  • Resilient and confident advocate, unafraid to take on challenging cases or appear in demanding tribunal and court settings.

  • Highly driven and eager to learn, with a commitment to going beyond the minimum and putting in the effort needed to achieve the best outcomes for clients.

  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities to manage competing deadlines.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and a client-focused approach.

  • Ability to manage files independently while contributing to a team environment.

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with an interest in developing an independent practice over time, even if not yet established.
