J. Patrick Stopa, Q.C.

Mr. Stopa is a senior partner at Caron & Partners LLP. He has thirty years of litigation experience in Family Law, Personal Injury Law, Commercial Transactions and Municipal Law. He has appeared before all levels of Court in Alberta and before various, Boards, Commissions and Tribunals. Mr. Stopa has represented clients on a variety of legal issues at private mediations and at Judicial Dispute Resolution conferences. Since its inception he has been a Dispute Resolution Officer in the Court of Queen’s Bench Dispute Resolution Officer Pilot Project at the Calgary Court House respecting matrimonial matters involving issues of child custody, access, child and spousal support and division of matrimonial property. Mr. Stopa is a trained mediator having successfully completed the Legal Education Society of Alberta course of training in the Mediation of Family and Divorce Conflicts. He is a member of the Family Law, Personal Injury, Municipal Law and ADR subsections of the Alberta Branch of the Canadian Bar Association, and a member of the Alberta Arbitration and Mediation Society. As a result of Mr. Stopa’s litigation and mediation experience, Mr. Stopa believes that Alternate Dispute Resolution is an effective and more satisfactory method of dispute resolution over litigation, its adversarial nature and consequent cost in time, money and effort.

Richard J. Gilborn, Q.C.

Mr. Gilborn is a senior litigation partner with more than 28 years of corporate, commercial, personal injury and employment litigation.experience. Mr. Gilborn has acted as counsel in over 100 mediations, arbitrations and Judicial dispute resolutions in his practice areas.

He has also been appointed to a number of arbitration panels in commercial construction contract disputes and has been involved as counsel in two of the largest commercial mediations in Western Canada.

Mr. Gilborn will accept appointments as single arbitrator or as a member of an arbitration panel in cases appropriate to his experience.

Gregory J. Alexander

Mr. Alexander believes strongly in exploring all avenues of appropriate dispute resolution in those cases for which he is retained as counsel, facilitator or coach, and also enjoys participating in mediations or arbitrations as a third party neutral, with a goal of resolving conflict in a timely and cost effective manner.  He is interested in the design and implementation of dispute resolution processes for organizations, and the training of user groups. 

Mr. Alexander has practiced general litigation for over 25 years, with an emphasis on personal injury, insurance, construction, employment, and commercial and contract disputes.  He has also been very involved in arbitration, Judicial Dispute Resolution, and mediation for many years, has completed the Certificate Program in Conflict Management through the Alberta Arbitration and Mediation Society, and teaches the Arbitration course for that organization.  Mr. Alexander administered a province wide arbitration system for a new home warranty program for 12 years from inception, involving approximately 300 cases, implementing ongoing rules review and procedural amendments.  He frequently provides mediation services to the Provincial Court, Civil Division, for cases in a variety of areas of the law.  

Mr. Alexander was a member of the Company 2 Company Dispute Resolution Task Force for the Canadian Petroleum Industry, which released its report in April, 2004, and is currently a member of the C2C Council which oversees this initiative.  He has served as an instructor and evaluator for the Bar Admission course in the areas of Advocacy and Interviewing and Counseling.  

Mr. Alexander is a member of the Alberta Arbitration and Mediation Society, the ADR Institute of Canada, and the ADR section of the Canadian Bar Association.

D. Jean Munn

Ms. Munn has practiced law for 15 years. She has significant experience with matters related to employment, labour and administrative law.

Ms. Munn holds the Certificate in Arbitration from the Alberta Arbitration and Mediation Society and has acted as a member of more than 25 Arbitration Panels. In addition, Ms Munn has experience in drafting Arbitration and other alternative dispute resolution agreements and clauses for employers, employees, partnerships and other associations.

She is fluent in the Spanish language and acts as counsel for a broad range of non-profit agencies, boards and community organizations.
