Rick Gilborn is a
graduate in Arts from the University of Calgary and in Law from the University of Alberta
(1974). He completed his Articles of Clerkship with the Nesbitt Beaumont firm and was
called to the Alberta Bar in 1975. Mr. Gilborn was also admitted to the Bar of the
Province of Saskatchewan on January 16, 1989. Mr.
Gilborn joined Major Caron (now Caron & Partners
LLP) in October of 1990. He was appointed
Queen's Counsel by the Provincial Government January
31, 2000. |

Practice |
Mr. Gilborn is the
Managing Partner of Professional Services at Caron &
Partners LLP and is a senior litigator practicing in
the area of general litigation with emphasis on
commercial contract disputes, insolvency, employment
law, torts, insurance law and personal injury
litigation. He has appeared before all levels of
courts in the Province of Alberta, the Court of
Queen's Bench and the Court of Appeal in the
Province of Saskatchewan, the Federal Court Trial
Division, the Federal Court of Appeal and the
Supreme Court of Canada in a wide range of civil
litigation matters. Mr. Gilborn is also experienced
in commercial arbitrations.

| Associations |
Mr.Gilborn is actively involved in his
community and spent more than 10 years as a coach and
administrator in minor hockey and baseball in Calgary and has
taken intermediate level coaches training in hockey from the
National Coach's Certification Program. He is the past President
of the National Sport School Parent's Advisory Council, past
V.P. of Fundraising for Calgary Lougheed PC Association, for a
number of years, coached at the midget level for the Calgary
Roller Hockey League and is an active member of the Chancellor’s
Club at the University of Calgary..
Mr. Gilborn is also heavily involved in his profession. He is
currently a Director and the Past President and Chair of the
Alberta Lawyers' Assist Program, a past National Council Member
of the Canadian Bar Association, a past member of the Civil
Practice Advisory Committee of the Law Society of Alberta, a
member of the design group of the Court of Queen's Bench Case
Flow Management Project, a member of the Provincial
Implementation Committee - Systems of Civil Justice Task Force
and for a number of years has been a guest lecturer / panelist
in Continuing Legal Education Seminars and the Alberta Bar
Admission Program.
