Greg
Alexander is a graduate in Arts (1974) and Law
(1979) from the University of Alberta. He was called
to the Alberta Bar in 1980 and has practiced law in
Calgary since that time. Mr. Alexander also holds a
Certificate in Conflict Management.

Mr.
Alexander is a senior practitioner, mediator,
arbitrator and litigator with a wide variety of
experience. He has extensive advocacy and courtroom
skills groomed initially through experience in
criminal cases, both for the defence and as ad
hoc prosecutor, involving hundreds of trials and
appeals to the Alberta Court of Appeal and the
Supreme Court of Canada. He has a broad civil
litigation and arbitration practice, including
experience in personal injury, insurance, arson,
fraud, wrongful dismissal, construction, commercial
and contract disputes.
Mr. Alexander is a Certified Mediator and
Arbitrator, and has administered a province wide
arbitration system for a new home warranty program
for 12 years from inception, involving approximately
300 cases, implementing ongoing rules review and
procedural amendments. His practice involves
private arbitrations, and mediations both privately
and through the Courts. He has been involved in
teaching on legal topics through the Alberta
Arbitration and Mediation Society, Legal Education
Society, Canadian Centre for Public Legal Education,
the University of Calgary Faculty of Law, the
Alberta Home Builders Graduate Institute, the
Calgary Board of Education, the Canadian Bar
Association, and various client focus groups.

Mr. Alexander
has been actively involved as a volunteer in his community. He
is the Past President of the Earl Grey Golf Club and the Past
Commodore of the Glenmore
Sailing Club. He has been involved
as a volunteer in the Western Canada Summer Games Organizing
Committee, with Calgary Minor Hockey, Calgary Minor Lacrosse,
and Nancy Greene K1/K2 ski racing programs. He also enjoys his
own participation in sports and fitness activities.
Mr. Alexander has
also been very actively involved in his profession. He has
served on Law Society of Alberta Benchers Committees dealing
with Legal Aid, Professional Responsibility (Ethics), and
Professional Conduct; he has also served on numerous committees
of the Canadian Bar Association at both the Provincial and
National level, including chairing the Criminal Justice section.
He is currently a member of the Civil Litigation, Insurance,
Labour and Employment, and Personal Injury sections, and on the
executive of the ADR section. Mr. Alexander has also served the
Legal Aid Society of Alberta through his participation on the
Regional Committee, and the Tariff Review Committee over various
years. |
